I recently attended my first Accountex at London ExCel – the UK’s largest exhibition and conference for accountants. I was invited as a VIP guest of Sage and there was so much I was looking forward to. As I continue to improve my ‘tech savvy-ness’ I’m fascinated and hungry to learn about how technology is shaping the business world.
Here are my tech savvy highlights of Accountex 2015 …
It was fantastic to see a wide range of exhibitors showcasing their latest products and services – all making a positive difference to our industry. From the tech giants like Sage unveiling their latest game-changing innovations, to the smaller businesses and new kids on the block developing apps, there was a big focus on innovation.
This AccountingWEB softumentary provides a great summary of some of the highlights.
Technology is changing the business landscape. Jonathan MacDonald is one of the leading keynote speakers in the world, unlocking unique insights and new thinking for audiences looking for a better mindset and more effective tools to maximise future opportunities within an environment of perpetual change and uncertainty.
For the largest companies in the world including Google, Apple, Nestlé, IKEA, P&G and Unilever, Jonathan expands thought around the potential of technology, the shaping of society and the realities of business . He also runs the Thought Expansion Network (TEN) for pro-active business people looking to stretch their thinking and optimise opportunities.
Jonathan delivered a very thought provoking message about technology during his talk at the Sage Theatre: –
“Today is the slowest pace of change we will experience”.
“The disruption being caused by the introduction of new technology can represent our biggest opportunity, or our biggest risk.” It is up to us to turn the disruption into an opportunity and work out how we can convert change into fuel for growth.
Jonathan is a very engaging and insightful speaker. He blew my mind with some of the facts, thoughts and ideas he presented and I am currently enjoying reading his book ’28 Thoughts on Digital Revolution’.
Here’s a treat for you thanks to the lovelies at Sage – a link to the video of Jonathan’s talk at Accountex – ‘How to use perpetual change to fuel outstanding business success‘.
Apparently my telephone has the same capability as NASA in 1969. Will my telephone take me to the moon? Who knows!
It was an amazing opportunity to learn about “The Power of Cloud” from Piers Linney – technology and communications entrepreneur, investor, cloud computing pioneer and star of Dragons Den. His current business Outsourcery, is a leading cloud service provider with customers ranging from start ups to several FTSE-100 companies and public sector organisations.
Piers explained that this is a new technology world and competitive advantage is about software. Cloud is a way of deploying software and access to software is evergreen.
It’s amazing that small businesses can now access ‘big company’ technology via the cloud without a huge investment.
And here’s a mind blowing fact – “If cloud was a country, it would be the 5th biggest consumer of power in the world”.
Here’s another treat for you – watch Piers’ talk in full here – The Power of Cloud, Piers Linney. Thanks to the lovelies at Sage.
It’s a very exciting time to be in business! To quote Jonathan MacDonald – “Build a field and fill it with lots of men and women cows”.
